History: Prior to independence in 1975, the Australian legislation extended to the territory. At present, there is no patent protection available in Papua New Guinea.

Membership: Trying to join WIPO and considering membership of Paris and PCT.

Changes to conform to TRIPS: Drafting has not been pursued. ACCESS LAW Papua New Guinea is drafting a law on access at present.
