This hair tonic contains an extract of Cabe Jawa, belonging to Piperaceae and used as a folk medicine or a crude medicine in Indonesia, as an active component. The extract is prepared by extracting Cabe Jawa, as it is or after drying if necessary and in the shape as it is or crushed, with a solvent such as ethanol. The extract is formulated to a tonic, a hair cream, a mousse, a shampoo, a rinse, etc., by adequately compounding the extract with a known additive. The hair tonic has falling-off preventing effect and hair growth stimulating effect superior to a pepper on a mammal including a human.

This preparation contains 0.0005-20 (pref. 0.001-10)wt.%, on a dry basis, of an extract from a plant belonging to Theaceae Schima (e.g. Bunga cangkok, scientific name: Schima wallichii (DC) Korth) which grows esp. in the arid grassland and pastureland in Indonesia. The extracts can be obtained by immersing the leaves, stems, flowers, barks, seeds, fruits, whole grass, etc., of the plant in an extraction solvent (e.g. methanol) or refluxing them in the presence of the solvent under heating followed by filtration and then concentration. The preparation is obtained in the form of ointment, cream, milky lotion, lotion, pack, bathing agent, etc. Excellent in color fading ability for pigmentation after suntan, spots, freckles, chloasma, etc., and in ability for skin whitening, and is effective for retaining fresh skin through preventing skin aging by recovering and maintaining skin firmness and elasticity.

This skin preparation for external use contains 0.0005-20wt.%, preferably 0.001-10wt.% calculated as a dried substance of an extract of a plant of Pule and/or Uret-uret growing in a dry meadow, pasture, etc., especially in Indonesia. The extract of Pule and/or Uret-uret is obtained by immersing leaves, stems, flowers, bark, seeds. fruits, the whole plant of Pule and/or Uret- uret in an extractive solvent (e.g. solvent) or heating under reflux, filtering and concentrating. The extract is properly mixed with conventional additives and can be prepared into an ointment, cream, milky lotion, pack, bathing agent, etc. The skin preparation for external use has excellent effects on pigmentation after suntan, stain, freckles, lightening such as chloasma and lightening skin, maintains lively skin free from wrinkle and slack, etc., prevents skin aging and can retain young skin.
