WIESBADEN, Oct. 27 -- Older lambs sell for less than 10 pence on the market, these days, British papers report, throwing every farm in despair particularely in the hill regions, where farmers depend on cattle and lambs for their income. The suicide rate jumped up, causing Anglican priests to go to sheep and cattle auctions, where farmers meet, to talk to them and try to help. "The farming scene is in a terribly poor state," the {Sunday Telegraph} quoted one reverend. "In the hill farms the situation is horrific. We are seeing young men being driven to suicide because they can see nothing in return for their efforts." "A lot of people are struggling -- and it's the young ones who are going under, the 30- and 40-years-olds, the next generation of farmers. It's all very worrying.":
