COP 24: Time to draw the line between agribusiness and agriculture

For an agriculture decision in 2020 to be meaningful, substantive and truly allow for agriculture to contribute to the 1.5°C pathway and become climate resilient, the UNFCCC, governments and IGOs must begin today to make a distinction between agribusiness and agriculture (including the food growers that represent 88 percent of global farmlands).

Es überrascht mich zutiefst, dass es heute in unserer Gesellschaft immer noch Menschen gibt, die einen Klimawandel verursacht durch menschliche Einflüsse leugnen. Vermutlich haben diese Menschen nicht viel mit Landwirtschaft am Hut, denn in unserer westlichen Welt sind es nun einmal Bäuerinnen und Bauern, die den Klimawandel als Erste zu Spüren bekommen.

Will the teeth of trade rules swallow the Paris climate deal?

Earlier this week, the European Parliament approved the Paris climate agreement, joining more than 60 other countries in signing the deal and paving the way for this historic global effort to enter into force. While the Paris deal is truly a major step forward, countries will have to overcome a series of hurdles created by trade agreements to reach their climate goals.
