JoAnne Berkenkamp
Local Foods Program Director
JoAnne Berkenkamp joined IATP in 2007 to launch and lead IATP’s Local Foods program. The Program works nationally and locally to build food systems that are scale-appropriate, transparent, environmentally sustainable and that connect all members of society with healthy and culturally appropriate foods. IATP’s Local Foods Program has become nationally known for its pioneering work on healthy cornerstores, Farm to School, farmers market innovation, value chain development in large institutional markets, and food systems policy innovation.
Prior to joining, Ms. Berkenkamp led an independent consulting practice working with nonprofits, food businesses and foundations across the United States. Her consulting work focused on market development for locally and sustainably grown food and the creation of farmer-owned businesses. She has also worked extensively in the program evaluation arena, leading efforts to improve the impact and shared learning of approximately $30 million of food- and agriculture-related initiatives.
Previously, Ms. Berkenkamp worked for the World Wildlife Fund in Washington, DC, and for Catholic Relief Services at various locations in Asia, Africa and Latin America. She started her career in the corporate finance world structuring merger and acquisition transactions. JoAnne has a Master's in Public Policy degree from Harvard University.
