Job Description

DESCRIPTION: The intern will help do critical research and analysis on the expansion of the global meat industry. This work will assist IATP’s awareness raising on the negative impacts of industrial meat production with the goal to transform the food system to one that is socially just and ecologically sustainable. The work may also include looking at how the industry uses trade and investment rules to expand its power.

RESPONSIBILITIES and Useful Skills: Research and writing, assisting the director of the program with research needs for reports/publications

TIMESPAN: Open-ended

LOCATION: At the IATP office in Minneapolis or off-site. Weekly check-ins on skype with Supervisor in either case.

DURATION/HOURS: Ideally, at least 10 hours a week, but flexible

EXPERIENCE and QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate level preferred or senior level college students. Looking for a smart self-starter who is willing to work independently; with excellent research and writing skills; fluent in English; interested in progressive agriculture and food policies; interested in learning about policy advocacy and challenging agribusiness control of the food system (in particular, the meat industry). Good Communication skills. Comfortable on the phone and email with the possibility of communicating with experts in the field.
