Do Private Carbon Markets Make Sense for Farmers or the Climate?

During the Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association Conference running from February 10-15, 2021, IATP's Ben Lilliston will present at a workshop titled Do Private Carbon Markets Make Sense for Farmers or the Climate? on February 12 at 9 a.m. CT.

Private carbon markets for agriculture, like Indigo, promise to pay farmers for adopting better soil health practices, but questions linger about their financial benefit to farmers and their effectiveness in mitigating the climate crisis. Colin Mitchell of NCAT and Ben Lilliston of IATP will explain how private carbon markets work, what farmers need to know if they are considering joining one, and where the most promising opportunities exist to advocate for small farm friendly carbon sequestration policies.
