Jay H. Strohmaier, CFA

Treasurer

Jay Strohmaier retired from Parametric Portfolio Associates, a global leader in responsible (environmental, social and governance) investing in March 2021 as managing director of investment strategy. In that role, he was responsible for managing about $20 billion in assets for over 300 institutional clients including endowments, foundations, pension plans, healthcare organizations and other nonprofits. He found particular satisfaction in working with hospital clients, who had been on the frontlines of the global pandemic, and organized labor clients like carpenters, pipefitters, nurses and firefighters — the unsung heroes who built and protect our country.

Jay grew up on a wheat farm near Walla Walla, Washington. He studied agricultural and applied economics, earning a Bachelor of Science at Washington State in 1982 and Master of Science from the University of Minnesota in 1984. His early research focused on understanding the dynamics of wheat pricing in the U.S. and analyzing how farmers could more effectively manage commodity price risk, with articles published by the University of Minnesota Press and Stanford Food Research Institute. Always keenly engaged on the financial side of agriculture, Jay later earned the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and spent the last 30 years of his career in institutional money management where he was a frequent speaker at nationwide investment conferences and guest lecturer for graduate level finance courses.
