The CCIC is of the view that the WTO is an institution in crisis--both because of major conflicts over the content of current trade agreements and because of core issues of legitimacy linked to the governance of the institution itself. There are many reasons for the crisis, but one of the most important is that poverty is increasing globally in spite of booming international trade in the past two decades. In short, the world's trading system has not delivered its promised outcomes to the developing world.
