Arcadis and International Business Machines Corp are exploring opportunities to work together in the area of advanced water management, the Dutch engineering company said.

The idea comes after IBM announced the creation of a global centre of excellence for water management in Amsterdam.

Arcadis said it has bundled its water management activities into a global knowledge network focusing on the technology for clients in flood prone deltas and coastal zones around the globe.

The network brings together about 200 Arcadis employees from various parts of the company and from around the world, a spokesman said. Water management accounts for about 10 pct of the company's annual sales, he said. In 2006, Arcadis had group sales of 1.2 bln eur.
