South Australian Primary Industries Minister, Rob Kerin, has told his
Federal counterpart farmers and consumers in Europe are missing out on the
benefits of genetic technology.

Mr Kerin met with Minister Truss yesterday, concerned over the
misinformation about GM crops. He says Minister Truss was receptive to the
need to educate Australian farmers and consumers using the resources of
bodies like the CSIRO.

Mr Kerin says South Australia will not move to become a GMO-free State, and
is suggesting his colleagues in Western Australia and Tasmania have been
grandstanding in looking at GM-free status.

Victorian Agriculture Minister, Keith Hamilton has also given his full
support for the use of gene technology by farmers in that State.
