WILMINGTON, Del. -- DuPont Qualicon, a wholly owned subsidiary of DuPont (NYSE: DD), announced the opening of a laboratory to provide testing services to determine if specific genetic modifications are present in food products. The laboratory, located at the DuPont Experimental Station in Wilmington, will provide a precise determination of the percentage of genetically enhanced materials contained in soy- and corn-based products.

This service will enable food processors to easily and inexpensively monitor supply chains and establish identify preservation systems to comply with the labeling requirements necessary for some markets.

Producers of soy- and corn-based products can be assured of getting the most accurate and cost effective quality testing available today. They can also be confident that the DuPont Qualicon lab employs the most sophisticated technology, highest safety standards and best scientific expertise -- hallmarks of DuPont. Samples may be submitted for testing by contacting DuPont Qualicon at 1-800-863-6842 or by visiting www.qualicon.com.

The application of biotechnology to agriculture will bring a broader range of healthier, tastier, more nutritious foods to the marketplace. When these products are available, consumers will want the assurance that those desirable traits they bargained for are present in the products they purchase.

"Qualicon's highly reliable service will be able to do this with great accuracy, delivering the assurance food companies and consumers demand," said James C. Porter, Chairman and CEO, DuPont Qualicon. "This testing service is a key part of DuPont's effort to provide our customers and consumers with broader choice of quality products."
