Lake Almanor Basin Watershed Coordinator

The Sierra Institute for Community and Environment is offering the position of Watershed Coordinator for Lake Almanor. The coordinator position is based in Taylorsville, California and will involve extensive work with a wide variety of people, groups, and agencies to advance sustainable management of the Lake Almanor Basin. The person will coordinate Lake Almanor Basin project activities under a California Proposition 13 grant.
The Watershed Coordinator will help establish, coordinate, and serve as staff to the Lake Almanor Advisory Committee which will be working with Plumas County, consultants, and others on the development of a comprehensive watershed plan for the Lake Almanor Basin.
The coordinator will:
manage and facilitate public meetings for the Advisory Committee and
other basin watershed management groups;
coordinate and facilitate the exchange of information among the
Advisory Committee, other watershed-focused groups in the Basin,
Plumas County Planning officials and state agencies involved with
water issues (e.g., Department of Water Resources, State Water
Resources Control Board, and others), diverse stakeholders, and the
general public;
work with consultants who are developing a watershed monitoring plan
and a septage disposal feasibility study;
work independently and with the Plumas County Environmental Health
Department to produce and distribute fact sheets, brochures, and
other watershed educational materials;
work with others to develop project reports in a timely manner; and
regularly travel to in-county locations, and occasionally to more
distant locations in the state of California.
The coordinator will possess all or a portion of the following:
excellent skills and experience with group facilitation, consensus
building, and coordination;
experience working at the intersection of community and natural
resource management;
a minimum of an undergraduate degree in a relevant field; a graduate
degree in a relevant field or commensurate experience is preferred;
excellent written and oral communication skills;
project management experience;
the ability to work effectively independently and with multiple
agencies;
the ability to manage and disseminate multiple modes of information;
and
good computer skills, including but not limited to Microsoft Word,
Excel, Powerpoint, along with Mac familiarity.
The following skills are preferred but are not essential:
geographic information system experience (ArcView or ArcInfo) to
display data and to make it available to the public;
familiarity with water quality monitoring and chemical processes;
grant writing experience; and
web-site management and administration.
The position is funded through April of 2007. This work period may be increased through additional grant and program funding.
