LAKE COUNTY, Fla. -- More than 100 angry Central Floridians faced off with a California company that wants to pump millions of gallons of water from the aquifer in Lake County.
Niagara Bottling Company representatives and Lake County residents met in Paisley Thursday night to share information and opinions. The company wants to build a bottling plant in Lake County.
It says the move would bring jobs and money to the community.
"I don't know how it can be disputed that bottled water is the most conservative use. After all it's human consumption," said a representative from Niagara Bottling Company
Central Florida is already in a water crisis that some experts say could get worse in five years. Some people in Lake County fear Niagara will pump millions of gallons of water from the aquifer and increase the problem.
"Zephyrhills is taking up the water. Well, if they've already got the right to take up all the water, then we need anybody else taking any more of it," said one resident.
Niagara said it would use less water than most farms. The company has applied with the St. Johns Water Management District to use the aquifer, but a decision has not been made.WFTV
