June 25--International Paper (IP) announced a restructuring plan that will cause it to eliminate 3,000 jobs from its domestic workforce. The reductions are the equivalent of a 10 percent cut of the company's US salaried workforce.
Company officials say the restructuring will allow IP to reduce costs, and better align resources with the company's core business of paper, packaging, and forest products. According to Jenny Broadman, a spokesperson for the
company, the restructuring plan will not effect any employees in forestry or "manufacturing positions" at IP, but will instead impact the company's staff support functions and prompt organizational changes within several of IP's operating businesses throughout the next 12 months.
