Supporters of a 10-year moratorium on growing or raising genetically engineered crops or livestock in Sonoma County have gathered enough signatures to qualify an initiative for the ballot.
Organizers of the "GE-Free Sonoma County" needed 29,000 signatures, but the group garnered 38,000 valid signatures, said the county's office of registrar of voters. Their proposal makes exceptions for agricultural or medical research and for animal feed.
