Dong Nai, July 10 (VNA) - The Rhone-Alpes region of France has assisted the southern Dong Nai province of Viet Nam in a sustainable forest development project, the first of its kind in Viet Nam.
Under the project, the Rhone-Alpes region has over the past year provided over 130,000 Euros for the local Tan Phu Forest Farm to manage and preserve bio-diversity, conduct afforestation and develop ecological tourism.
A survey conducted shows the forest is home to around 158 species of plants and 153 species of birds, seven of which are listed in the World's Red Book. There are also hundreds of species of reptiles and insects in the forests managed by the Tan Phu Forest Farm. Forest workers have selected and produced saplings of 13 species of precious timber trees for growing in these forests.
As part of the project, a path, which is 2km long and 2m wide, has been built through the forest. Other paths to the Thac Mai tourist site in the locality will also be opened in the future.
