Several members of Congress have formed a biotechnology caucus in the U.S.
House.

Rep. Tom Ewing, R-Ill., said the caucus will serve as a bipartisan
clearinghouse for the exchange of information on the potential benefits
biotechnology, including medical advances, increased nutrition in foods and
farmer productivity.

Ewing said the caucus will also educate members about the regulatory
frameworks both at home and abroad devoted to reviewing new biotechnology
products such as genetically modified foods.

Ewing will serve as co-chairman of the caucus along with Reps. Robert Ehrlich, Jr., R-Md.; Cal Dooley, D-Calif.; and Lois Capps, D-Calif.
