Environment group Greenpeace were cited as remaining defiant tonight in the wake of a Crown Prosecution Service decision to seek a re-trial of 28 activists charged with destroying genetically-modified crops.
Lord Melchett, the group's executive director, who is one of the 28 Greenpeace protesters accused of criminal damage, was quoted as saying the campaign against the "reckless release of GM crops" would continue.
A jury at Norwich Crown Court failed to reach a verdict on the charge of criminal damage following a two-week trial last month - although jurors cleared the 28 defendants of theft.
No date has yet been set for the retrial on the damage charges.
