EVANSTON, Ill. -- Does that red apple you pick up at lunchtime look, asks this story, a little too red?
Although Sodexho Marriott Food Services assures the high quality of the food used in all Northwestern University dining halls, the Food and Drug Administration does not require food distributors to label genetically engineered foods, so, the story says, Marriott official cannot be sure if the apples are genetically enhanced for improved appearance or to add nutritional value.
Charles Watkins, assistant director of Dorms and Commons Services was quoted as saying, "The university is aware of concerns on campus and internationally. We will continue to work closely with Sodexho Marriott to continue to serve safe, healthy and nutritious food, and we will continue to be diligent in observing food quality."
Even though genetically engineered food is an international worry, there is, the story says, a lack of student concern on the subject.
