Developing countries have proposed an amendment to the World Trade Organization (WTO)'s Agreement on Trade-Related Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) by requiring patent applicants to disclose the origin of biological resources and traditional knowledge used in patented products. The steady erosion of global biodiversity and the world's dependence on a very narrow range of biological diversity will not be remedied simply by a disclosure amendment to TRIPs.
