What is the Meat and Dairy Emissions Dashboard?
Despite their enormous climate impact, meat and dairy companies have mostly operated under the radar of mainstream climate policy, evading responsibility to report or reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. When major meat and dairy companies do report their emissions, the reporting often lacks transparency, credibility or comparability with other companies. As new climate-related disclosure laws are introduced in jurisdictions around the world, the Meat & Dairy Emissions Dashboard provides a hub for information on meat and dairy companies’ climate-related reporting. In compiling this data, IATP is contributing to the global campaign to increase corporate climate accountability and cut agricultural livestock emissions. How to use the dashboard
The Dashboard offers researchers and journalists easy access to information from multiple sources by consolidating information on a company’s climate -risk, historical GHG emissions, participation in climate-focused initiatives and reporting under climate-related disclosure rules. The Dashboard also provides direct links to company reports and relevant policies so that researchers and journalists can investigate source texts.
The Dashboard gives policymakers and analysts easy access to information about how major meat and dairy companies are responding to climate policies. For example, policy analysts can investigate how meat and dairy companies’ reporting changes over time based on their exposure to climate-related disclosure rules.
Investors have access to company reports and filings, but they may not have information on the ‘big picture’ of how GHGs, particularly methane, from major meat and dairy companies are contributing to climate change. As investors increasingly make decisions based on climate risk, the Dashboard provides a hub for data on a company’s financial standing, sustainability reporting, and real climate impact.
