Bangladesh will push for a special U.N. program on Global Food Security at the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) upcoming meet to increase food availability around the world.

Foreign Advisor of Bangladesh Dr Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury said this to the media on Wednesday while sharing some views on the upcoming UNCTAD meet scheduled to be held at Accra in Ghana next week.

"Bangladesh will press for this, along with a package of other ideas, as chairman of the group of the least developed countries (LDCs) in order to mainstream them in the global economy, at UNCTAD XII," he said, according to local media reports.

The UNCTAD conference, an event that takes place every four years, begins in Ghana's capital on April 20.

Earlier on April 19, there will be a ministerial conference of the LDCs to finalize their position in the conference, chaired by Dr Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury.

Dr. Chowdhury said the program would serve to find ways to meet worldwide shortages in food grain, as it would seek a New Green Revolution through greater research and development. All Headline News
