World Trade Organisation director general Supachai Panitchpakdi has said that developed country members have to recognise the sensitivities of developing countries such as India in agriculture if the on-going WTO negotiations are to move forward. "The deal has to take into account the sensitivities of Indian agriculture and this is something which the ministers of member countries are aware of," Supachai told reporters after his meeting with commerce minister Kamal Nath here on Friday. Nath emphasised that his government would not budge from its position to protect the livelihood concerns of its farmers. "Agriculture is not a trade issue and cannot be treated like one by the WTO," he added.Financial Express:
