Phnom Penh, 27 March: Prime Minister Samdech Akkak Moha Sena Padei Decho Hun Sen Wednesday [26 March] ordered halt on rice exports to neighbouring Thailand and Vietnam for two months.
"To assure food security, Cambodia decides to prohibit export of rice to Thailand and Viet Nam. Finance Minister Keat Chhon will make this decision public today [26 March]," Samdech Decho Hun Sen said while presiding over the launching ceremony of the national road 57's rehabilitation held in Pailin City.
After two months, he underlined, the government will examine the stability of the rice market.
He further wished understanding from Thai and Vietnamese tradesmen as well as Cambodian exporters of rice, and from the development partners not to accuse the royal government to use this measure to violate the WTO's policy.
He besides asked the authorities along the borders to implement this decision immediately.
